Testing the new firepit!

Today we wanted to test our new firepit, so Max put it in the driveway. The weather was perfect for a little camp fire, because fall started already. As it became later, it became colder, so the nicer the heat of the fire was. It really took a long time until we finally had a real fire. We spend much time just throwing paper in it to keep the fire. But in the end it worked and we had a really nice good one. Our neighbors joined us and we had a nice evening while toasting bred and roasting marshmellows.
In the end I could have spend hours just staring into the fire. We had a good time, and I think the next time we do it, I will introduce them to "Stockbrot" (which nobody knows here)!

super-cool-Dad Post

This is probably more an in-joke, so don't wonder if you don't understand, but I just want to make sure that everyone knows, that my host dad Max (and my host mom Nicole of course too) is super cool and would never have a embarrassing parent idea (like complaining that there are too few homework) ! I just promised to do that and here it is! ;)

Washington Monument Tour

On Saturday Max, Max's parents, my Local Coordinator, one other exchange student and I went to Washington DC to see the Monuments there. There are really many monuments there, so we had a lot to do.
The first thing we saw was the Washington Monument. It is damaged by an earthquake, so there was a scaffolding around it, but it was still quite amazing to see it. Near that is the Reflection Pond (I always thought the Washington Monument is right behind it, but there is a little distance between it, which I didn't know). Between the Reflection Pond and the Washington Monument is the Memorial of the Second World War, that is also made very interesting. We also went to see the Martin Luther King Memorial, which is pretty new and the Memorial of the Korean War, which looks very real when staying in the front of it and seeing the sculptures of the soldiers.  The next memorial we saw was the Lincoln Memorial. It is one of my favorites, because it is really impressive and the marble stone looks very beautiful. You can see many sightseeings from there, for example the Washington Monument, the Reflection Pond and the Capital Building. After that we went to the quite unknown Albert Einstein Memorial (there are really many memorials in DC), the Vietnam Memorial and then we saw the White House.
In DC are many museums and you can join them for free! We didn't go inside one, but we walked through a sculpture garden, which was part of a museum. Afterwards we saw the Capital building.

In the end I can say that Washington DC is  very, very beautiful city and it is definitely worth seeing it!

My first week of school is over!

Now my first week of school is over. I met interesting and funny people and already started doing some real lesson in my classes, for example today I had a test in Earth Science (I didn't understand anything).
Some classes are also pretty easy, like math (I usually don't say that) and music, because I already did it in school in Germany, but maybe this is an opportunity to have good marks at math  and not having any problems ;) And I am sure in music there will be things I didn't know and I am really looking forward to my next music class.
At the beginning it was really confusing to get all the logic with the school busses like when my bus comes in the morning and where is the best place to wait for it in the afternoon, but now I know what to do, where to be and when the bus will leave.
School starts at 8:35 and finishes at 3:15 pm. For me that is really long, because in Germany school finished almost always at 1 pm, but I think I just have to get used to it.
I also got a locker, which is really useful and I do enjoy to have the opportunity to put all my school binders in there.
I am so excited and curious for the next week of school, but for now I  will definitely enjoy my weekend!

First day of school!

Until now I never overslept in the morning. But of course I did on my fist day of school! Max and Nicole brought me to the bus stop, and we saw the bus driving to it - when we weren't there yet. So I missed my bus and our neighbor drove me to school (Max had a Meeting and Nicole a concussion, so they couldn't drive me).
When I finally was in school, I had to find my classroom, which was quite confusing, because the school has really many rooms. In the classroom I got my schedule and luckily  I got all the classes I choose. My classes are: English, Algebra I, World History/Geography, Earth Science, Journalism I, French I, and Music lab/ Guitar.  That day I had Algebra I, Music, World History and Journalism.
I was happy when school ended ( at 3:15), because I was quite overwhelmed.
Tomorrow is going to be a Blue Day, which means there will be different classes (today was a Red Day). I am already so curious how it will be!
